Our country finds ourself in a difficult situation where we have a government that won by Default at a very low voter count. Combine this with their socialist totalitarian power grab policies and we have a recipe for disaster.
I would propose a system in which, a government that has been elected on a voter count of 9 million, can be voted out, if a petition of any kind surpasses the number they were elected on. So, surpassing the 9 million in this case.
Triggering a new election.
This would incentivise governments to actually care about the nation they govern, lest they be voted out. It would galvanise the public, now granting them a way to hold something accountable, and it would create a situation that Elected Governments would want to win more than just a narrow margin. Creating more actual debate, and less theatre.
Of course, this is something i would want to test, refine, and create any kind of amendments to stabilize and prevent exploitation.
Issue one off the top of my head is, government intervention.
Corrupt officials manipulating petitions, essentially.
Combine this with people outside of the UK signing these petitions, and we have ourselves two core problems but i do think it is possible to come up with a solution to these.
Difficult as it would be to implement i think the policy itself would create a more healthy political environment for the UK.
