All government quangos should be scrapped as they cost a lot and are unaccountable. Any that are deemed necessary should report every 6 months to a parliamentary select committee and be directly accountable to a government minister.

All enabling legislation needs to be repealed: that can be a Day 1 action of a new Right government. Labour may give these quangos their own borrowing powers, like they plan to give them to new Mayoral Combined Authorities, so there could be a large residual bill involved in curtailing quangos’ activities, on top of redundancy for the staff, lease break payments for their premises, delapidations…
