As a ex veteran and worked with many of these countries and worked with the American forces as well.
The American forces have a completely different way of training and attitude. For too long the British forces have been aligned with American and I’ve witnessed it first hand. Yes they are a powerful ally but have in past when it has suited them dropped the UK in the quagmire to put it politely. Suez, they only just backed us over the Falklands, second gulf war and recently in Afghanistan. Whether you support Trump side or the opposite they have both left this country with egg on our faces so have proved not the best of allies. The British forces have become just an extra units for the Americans to use when they feel they need us. The British government should look towards our oldest friends and allies to form a coalition and build of that instead of jumping to everything the Americans say or ask.
The joint military forces command would be rotated through the commonwealth countries and not just the UK.
Our equipment is now more and more becoming American, this is not a good situation, we need to invest more in our own equipment. Before anyone says we have always had American equipment, yes I know after serving in the Royal Artillery half of our guns where American, and now a mixture of British and Swedish guns.
We should develop with Israel are own iron dome system, because we are totally defenceless at the moment. We have the RAF interceptors, but how effective they would be against drones and high velocity missiles . So my policy to put forward is:
Withdraw our forces from the close alignment with the US
Re aligned our forces with commonwealth countries
Put more money into UK military equipment
Invest in a iron dome system for the defence of the UK.
I think that it is important to differentiate between Commonwealth nations and Commonwealth realms here. I think that we all know that Trump is currently thinking about making America a Commonwealth nation, which would make this whole point mute.
The first picture shows the Commonwealth realms in blue, and the second picture shows the Commonwealth nations in blue.
As a general rule, I agree. We have relied on the US for far too long and basically allowed ourselves to become their vassal state since WWII. However, I am concerned about the idea of immediately cutting all relations with them. To me, the most sensible thing to do would be to adopt a policy of strategic independence. That is to say, we should build towards being able to run independent military operations.
I would also be interested in further integration of the realms together, other than Papua New Guinea, who has a population of almost 10mil and would struggle with some degree of re-intergration.
Yeah better ties between CANZUK is a must.
See Closer ties with ANZAC / Anglo Reunion / CANZUK
On the surface of this I like the idea. However I feel we first need to review our own policies and armed forces. We need to align ourselves with countries that share our values and are prepared to share the cost as well as increasing our own spending and capabilities. Some of these countries are also too woke, I’m not sure I would trust them to have our best interests at heart.
Hi,
My proposal is not to competely withdraw from the USA but a new alignment. During Vietnam war the US knew they couldn’t win and yet poured millions of cash, weapons and troops into that war and right at the end they withdrew and left all the equipment for the Vietcong, sounds familiar to Afghanistan doesn’t it. They have a track record on this, so how much money, how much equipment and many servicemen do we have to lose before we wake up. The Australians, Canadians, New Zealanders and commonwealth all served this country it’s about time we started looking towards our cousins.
