Ban Aspartame in the UK

Aspartame was approved by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) in 2013 and is the world’s most widely used artificial sweetener.

However, these chemically produced sweeteners are believed to be detrimental to the health and well-being of the population. Aspartame is found in thousands of products—from soft drinks and sweets to sugar-free gums and “light” foods—which means it’s almost unavoidable in many daily diets. The issue is that numerous studies have raised concerns over its potential health impacts, including possible links to headaches, mood changes, and even more serious health issues like cancer.

The World Health Organization’s recent classification of Aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic” should set off alarm bells.

If we care about public health and want to take preventive action, banning Aspartame could encourage manufacturers to develop safer, healthier alternatives.

A UK-wide ban would be a proactive step towards a healthier society. Let’s protect our health and demand better standards in our food and drink choices.

I completely support this policy. I was a big fan of diet drinks for many years, but became highly sensitized to aspartame which started to give me migraines in my late 30’s (which I’d never suffered from before) whenever I consumed it. I now have to be extremely careful, as even the smallest amount of aspartame acts as a major migraine trigger. I’m not a scientist but my experience convinced me that aspartame might very well be a neurotoxin and perhaps worse.

Unadulterated sugar is better for us than aspartame. We just need to consume less of it, rather than trying to replace it with a chemical alternative.

Aspartame leaves a nasty aftertaste. I believe it is linked to cancer. Avoid or ban!
