Big Government (Constructive Rationalism)

Big government - Constructive Rationalism - is the problem. Once people understand that there is a real cost to everything, and therefore any allocation of capital other than in accordance with the utility it creates, which is what big government is, is at the expense of capital, it becomes obvious what the problem is and the solutions are. The question is how do you get rid of big government in the least painful manner possible. I would suggest we reduce the tax rate for the 25 year olds downwards to 5%, covering only the cost of military and police. At the same time they lose their welfare benefits and must go private on healthcare etc. They keep that low tax rate for the rest of their life. That starts to build a productive system. At the same time we put the big state we have in run-off the same as pension funds etc. Within that, we give the supply of healthcare and education etc to the private sector, and give people the ability to buy what they want with their tax. Take for example education. In the year 2023 we paid £7460 per pupil to go to school. With an average of 22.3 children per class in secondary schools, that equated to £166,358 per class compared with average teacher pay of £39,570. With more than 20 children, tehre is supposed to be an assistant whose average pay was £23,660. After taking off say £10,000 for building and heating and books etc, this left just over £93,000 unaccounted for per class. Almost all of that goes to civil servants and local authority administrators which do nothing positive for education. Get rid of them and pay the teachers nearer the £166,000. Then we will start to get great teachers and lift education levels dramatically.
