English Government

Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales all have their own Government / Assembly , having their own responsibilities, and a voice for their country.
After the Referendum for Scottish Independence, David Cameron gave a speech on 19 September 2014, where he said “We have heard the voice of Scotland - and now the millions of voices of England must also be heard.
The question of English votes for English laws - the so-called West Lothian question -requires a decisive answer…”
Then there was silence, the English are left as second class citizens, and then people wonder why, we throw our hands up, as our wishes are ignored.
As it stands, England is the only one of the four countries still 100% governed from Westminster, it is long overdue that this was rectified. Give England back it’s Identity, and it’s voice.

I am sympathetic to the argument that England too should have a devolved government. However, my hesitation comes from how much of a disaster devolution has been for the other countries of the Union. They are (seemingly) ravaged by corruption and extreme leftist infiltration on almost all fronts. I fear the same may also occur in England.

However, they should not prevent us from putting forward the argument for it. The benefits, on balance, may out weigh the risks.

None the less, I suspect all attempts to establish an English government have been and would be stifled for a few reasons:

  1. It would highlight the colossal economic contribution England makes to the Union, and likely upset the funding formula for the other devolved nations.
  2. It could potentially re-ignite a sense of Englishness, which (it seems) the establishment is terrified of.

In my view one of the primary benefits of an English government would be to strongly highlight how England is also simply a member nation of the United Kingdom and not the ‘source of all evil’ which it appears England is often conveniently portrayed as in some political circles in the devolved nations. It would also highlight that England was a member of the British Empire, just like many other countries that both benefited and suffered under it, and would cease to be the scape goat for the all other countries of the Empire to offload their perceived Empirical sins on to.

Unfortunately I suspect even the communication of the concept of a devolved English government would collapse the minds of many, unthinking English people.

Given that I think that devolution ought to be undone, I simply cannot agree with this.

IF devolution were to be undone, then there would be no need for an English Parliament, but as that seems unlikely then the need remains.

Out of interest, what do you mean by it seems unlikely? If we ever get the power to implement anything, we could do it.

I believe the removal of devolution is unlikely because I cannot see any government doing so. Labour clearly love the idea, and the slightly further right Conservatives have had ample opportunity and reason to remove it, but not done so, because secretly they like the idea of devolution but want us back in the EU. Go figure. Further to the right again, but not very far, Reform if they got in would say they were going to, then the Supreme Leader would change his mind 27 times before deciding it was not in his best interests. Of course, if Integrity got in with a massive majority, well then maybe it could happen.

However, if devolution continues England will never get a Parliament of its own because
