I propose that NHS patients be given the right to have any information/entries erased in their entirety from their health records if they so choose. It is a well known issue that from time to time erroneous, misleading or unjustified information is entered into patients records and as it stands the NHS will not erase information unless you can prove that it is untrue no matter how much it might do you dirty. And this is not always possible. Though even if it is technically true that doesn’t mean it necessarily needs to be on your record.
I propose that any information whatsoever (with the exception of only the worst and most dangerous specific medical conditions, I mean specific diagnosis of specific conditions such as paranoid schizophrenia for example that are permanent and incurable and can therefore demonstrate a concrete and continuous relevance of the entry) can be erased entirely on demand or automatically self delete after a fixed period of time (say 5 years) to prevent it from haunting the patient for the rest of their life unnecessarily. E.g. precautionary information from counselling sessions that turned out to be nothing to worry about.
For something to be retained against the patients will there needs to be the mother of all justifications, a clear and present danger to life or limb not merely keep it just in case because well you never know. That’s not good enough.
