Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the UK’s public sector —spanning the civil service, military, and other institutions— have had unintended consequences that demand urgent attention. Though claiming to be based in principles of fairness and representation, DEI has, in many cases, damaged human capital and eroded morale.
There is growing evidence that these practices have prioritised identity over merit, leading to inefficiencies and a decline in trust within public institutions. This has not only damaged performance but also demoralised dedicated professionals who feel their skills and experience are being overlooked.
It is time for a comprehensive review of DEI policies, both collectively and individually. This means reassessing hiring, promotion, and regrading processes to ensure they align with the principles of meritocracy and fairness. Additionally, the role of individuals who have benefited from these policies must be scrutinised to ensure accountability and restore confidence in public institutions.
The UK deserves a public sector that prioritises excellence, integrity, and fairness. A thorough review of DEI practices is not just necessary—it is essential to safeguarding the future of our public services.

DEI is unnecessary.
Merit based hiring is the only ethical hiring practice.
Means tested provision of services and support is also the only ethical form of charity.
Ban DEI and any other positive discrimination, alongside penalise non merit and non means based approaches which by definition reduce equality of opportunity.

We don’t need to review it, we need to demolish it and set up a merit based system, which is free of prejudice and value judgements. DEI has promoted people unsuitable for their positions eg a chancellor who claimed she was the first women chancellor but lied on her CV about economic qualifications and so on. Scrap it.

I’ve read today today the MOD are paying more for diversity chiefs than our soldiers get paid to be at the beck & call of the government to send them out to proxy war zones to give their lives for false causes.

DEI is communism, and completely antithetical to western principles. It has no place in our society.
DEI is the polar opposite of “inclusive” and needs scrapping completely. It is deeply divisive, not in the best interests of indigenous people (and I include here second and third generation immigrants who are fully integrated) and open to dangerous interpretation. Meritocracy should be the key yardstick in employment, not skin colour or culture. The best man or woman for the job based on experience and performance.
