At the end of the day, they were only voted in on their manifesto promises. If governments want to make new laws outside of this it should require either a referendum or a new election with new manifestos.
Issue: Parties will start to create larger manifestos, malicious policies may get snuck in, tricky language used (such as with IHT) and campaigning then becomes a different environment.
Campaigning will become alot of “you may find out more in our manifesto” while focusing on bitesized information.
As such, we would need to address this issue or come up with an alternate way to limit governments. But in Principle i would agree.
It might push the debates into more detailed examination of the manifestos though. Their opponents would be quick to call out any shenanigans i expect. Details could be hashed out with experience.
It would actually gradually create a higher standard of intelligence to survive the political landscape.
I do agree they should be more obligated to stick to there manifesto. As @The_Raven pointed out, this could make things more complex and sneaky.
There is a line somewhere, views and circumstances can change, but every manifesto is a joke and “nothing gets done”.
We need to approach this with a can do attitude. At the moment it seems government can do what they like, and as much as we complain nothing changes. The MSM are biased so there has to be another way of holding them to account. We have judicial reviews but even they don’t seem to have the impact required. I don’t know what the answer is but will be interested to see others ideas
There needs to be more accountability for lying government, more transparency and the people should have a say where their tax money goes .
Foreign aid to rich Countries should stop and spent in making our own Country better.
A DOGE style department should be created to ensure our money does not go to terrorists and worthless net zero projects and bias media .
We should also become more self sufficient . Relying on our own Farmers and drilling for our own gas and oil.
Solar farms dont work or wind farms .
My son worked on a large solar farm in Anglesey which was virtually destroyed in the recent storms and that site cost the tax payer millions . The wind turbines in our area dont operate in strong winds as the wind would damage them and some have caught fire . Its all a scam.
Maybe a party could be fined if they blatantly go back on a policy which they sold to the British public for their electoral vote?
Prison would be more effective. With a fine youre basically saying legal for a price.
Nice idea but then you will encourage parties to behave like Labour did before the recent election, they hardly had any policies at all. If they had been honest about what they were planning there might have been a different turnout. This is clearly an important topic though, we need some way to hold politicians to account, I’ve never seen so much corruption and lies in all my life!
