This year (2025) has seen Easter and the two May bank holidays all crammed rather close together. Then we have only one Public Holiday until Christmas. (In England at any rate - I don’t have the others to hand)
Might I propose that the late Spring Bank Holiday be removed and reverted to being Whitsuntide (Which this year would make it Sun, 8 Jun rather than 26th May as we have just had)
For many persons who are self-employed and for small businesses that have to pay staff on very thin margins, there is little desire for more Bank Holidays but would be less objection to spreading them out a bit more.
That said, if we were to accept one more, I would propose Trafalgar day (Nearest Monday to 21st October) as it would break up the long gap between August and Christmas quite reasonably and is historically important.
It would be lovely to have all the UK nations’ Saints’ days but this could be a bit excessive for SME’s as mentioned above.
